Monomono Machine (Round 3)
- What is the Monomono Machine?
The Monomono Machine is the vending machine that holds your regains. ICly, characters will find monocoins on their bedside tables from time to time after a thread has been OOCly submitted here for a regain. Then it's a simple matter of inserting the coin into the Monomono Machine and crossing their fingers for something that's actually theirs.
- What is a Monocoin?
A monocoin is your reward gained for each 20 comment (10 comments per person) thread between two player characters (that is, not mod-controlled characters like Monobear or Hope) that occurs. Threads that take place during an Investigation, a Trial, or a Motive announcement are NOT ELIGIBLE for monocoins. The reason for this is that Motives, Investigations, and Trials are considered to be the game's "cutscenes," or plot moments, and it's only in the freeplay parts of the DR games that monocoins can be collected.
- What can Monocoins be used for?
Unlike BitCoin, they have a use. Remember those 5 items that you listed on your application? Well, here's where they come into play. For every Monocoin that you redeem in the Monomono Machine, you get a 1 in 10 chance of earning a player regain. The other 9 times you'll get one of the 90 non-plot specific items from the Monomono Machine in Dangan Ronpa.
- So I'm confused. How will you determine who gets what?
Basically, the mod team will use Random Number Generator to generate two numbers between 1 and 10. The first number will determine which set of 10 items your prize comes from (1 would be 001-010, 2 would be 011-020, etc.), while the second will determine which item from that set you get.
- But you only had us list five items.
Yes we did, but you see the 10th slot of items doesn't have just your items in it. Your list of regains will be combined with that of your threadmate, and a random number drawn from the ten. So essentially, you have a 1/10 chance of getting a player item, but only a 1/20 chance of getting one of your own items.
- ...That's evil.
We know.
- But wait, in the game you can put in more coins per spin to get better chances of not getting a repeat item.
There's something like that here, too! For every Monocoin-eligible thread with different characters that you submit, up to a total of 5 threads, your chances of getting a player regain will increase. One coin gives you a 1/10 chance, two for a 1/9, on down to 5 coins for a maximum 1/6 chance. For instance, if you turn in 4 separate threads at once, you can get one spin with a 1 in 7 chance of getting a player item, OR you can turn in each thread individually for four spins with a 1 in 10 chance, or two spins with a 1 in 10 chance and one with a 1 in 9, or any combination you want. However, they must all be with different characters, meaning that you cannot turn in two threads with character A and one with character B and get a three-Monocoin spin.
You can either indicate spins by giving each set of threads their own comment beneath your character's top-level, or by labeling them Spin 1, Spin 2, etc (or whatever you want to call them, just separate them so we know how many times to RNG for you).
Unlike Round 2, we are putting a weekly cap on the number of spins (not coins) that can be redeemed. Therefore, we'll have weekly top-levels on this post, with only that current week unfrozen to redeem coins on. The current cap is 15 spins per week, or a little more than two spins per day. This cap will still be present the final week, so budget coins accordingly.
- Do monocoins expire? Do the coins I use have to be from that week?
Eligible threads don't expire, so for example even though the first monocoin week goes from the 21-27, you can still use week 1 and intro log threads (however, your handsome and attractive manager's intro post can't be used for monocoins).
- Do I still have to save coins in case I get death rolled?
Since Round 3 is so much shorter than Round 2, we went from the two strike system that we used for Round 2 down to a one-time opt-out. If you get rolled for case 2 onward, you have to either submit or already have submitted one monocoin. That monocoin will forfeit its chance at a player item, and instead the character will just receive one of the standard items. If you can't supply a monocoin when you're deathrolled, then you can't use your opt-out.
- How do renewable items work?
Each character is allowed one renewable item among their five regains. Renewable items can be things like liquor, cigarettes, species/world specific food that they wouldn't have in the kitchen, or they can be non-consumable items like yarn in random colors for a knitter, or clean underwear or socks. What a renewable item means is that no matter how many times you've gotten that item from the machine before, there will always be more left.
- My threadmate already turned in our thread, do I need to turn it in as well to get that sweet, sweet coin?
Yes you do.
- How do threads with more than two people work?
In order to be able to redeem a thread, your character has to have contributed the minimum 10 comments normally in a standard monocoin thread. For instance, in order for all parties to be able to submit it, a 3-person thread has to be 30+ comments with at least 10 from each person, a 4-person has to be 40+, etc. Any participant with at least 10 comments can submit it for coin so long as the thread is at least 20 comments total.
- What do I do if I get one of my threadmate's items?
Whatever your character would do with it! Burn it, keep it, eat it, give it back, the sky's the limit. Note that depending on the item, it may be difficult to tell at first who the item belongs to, or even to distinguish it from the other random items dispensed by the machine.
- The character I was threading with is now dead. :( Can I still get free stuff?
Backtagged threads that reach 20 comments after the death of one of the characters can still be redeemed by the surviving party for a coin. The deceased gets bupkis, sorry.
When you have a thread long enough to be redeemed, comment below with a link to the thread. The mods will respond with what the characters have earned, whether it's one of their regains, someone else's or a default item.
